Review: Shiranui Akatsuki Gundam & Oowashi Akatsuki Gundam 1/144 HG

Since both of them are Akatsuki Gundam, just that they are equipped with different back pack and pilot by different people, so I’ll review both of them all at once. Akatsuki Gundam, a Gundam made by Orb, feature itself in the animation series Gundam SEED Destiny. This Gundam was first pilot by Cagalli Yula Atha using the “Oowashi back pack”. Later on, this Gundam was pilot by Neo Lornorke (Mwu La Flaga) and the Shiranui back pack was used. Akatsuki Gundam is fully painted with Gold colour, a laser-reflecting paint. So that’s why this Gundam can reflect all beam attack from the enemy (and even block down the positron cannon from Minerva!!).

Oowashi Akatsuki Gundam

Both Shiranui Akatsuki Gundam and Oowashi Akatsuki Gundam were released in 1/144 HG series. They are 24K Gold platted, yes! Gold platted! This make these kits look really nice. Even though they are just HG series, but these two kits have their own detail sticker included! A stand is not included, but stand from other model in this series can be used to pose them.

Shiranui Akatsuki Gundam

Before the assembling process, there are a few warnings I need to give to you. First, don’t do any mistake when you are painting of drawing detail lines. Yes, you can’t afford to make any mistake, not even one. Usually if we made mistake, we just get rid of it using the erasing solvent. But for this kit, if you put on the erasing solvent to erase the mistake you made on the model, it will dissolve away the gold plat too! So don’t ever make any mistake, even if you did made mistake, try other way to save your model without using the erasing solvent. Next, you really should try out to paint on the frame first before you start painting on this kit; it is because this gold platted surface is a nightmare for painting. You’ll need a lot of tries on the frame first before you can start your painting job on the model.

Shiranui Akatsuki Gundam "full burst" ^^

I find that the red-colour-triangle on the chest is very loose, so I’d put some glue on it. Beam saber for Shiranui is in clear colorless plastic while for Oowashi it is in the correct clear pink color. The shield gave me the most trouble in painting and assembly process. For Shiranui, you can use the given extra parts to pose the “dragoon system” bursting out! Take care during your work, good luck and enjoy these two high quality kits!
